F@F-project (2000) between Sipoon Lukio (Finland) and Tienen College (Belgium)

Antti Aalto

Griet Cloots

I have to admit that at the beginning of this project I really didn't know much about Belgium. But now I have the impression that there aren't so many big differences between our two countries. I'll have to thank Griet for that.

My partner, Griet Gloots, is a 18-year-old girl from Zuurbemde. She is very fond of animals and now she has a cat called Sieber. Because she loves animals she has been a vegetarian for 5 years now and she's also a member of animal rights group.

She likes soccer (who wouldn't) and sometimes she goes to see the matches of her hometown club STVV. But since she met her boyfriend she hasn't been in the matches so often anymore. She also goes to church every sunday but now she has so much work to do in school that she hasn't got time for many hobbies anymore. She likes all kinds of music and spends a lot of time in the internet.

Griet seems to be a very satisfied and happy with her life.

I found this project to be very interesting and fun. It's good to practise communicating in english. Im sure it will be usefull in the future.

Corresponding with Antti was very educational. I liked it very much, because we had a lot in common like Internet, soccer, and movies. And that was very nice.

Nevertheless, there were some things we really did not share, such as religion. He and his family are atheists but I'm not. In Finland, he said, there aren't a lot of people who are deep religious. They only go to church during the holidays. There are several things I didn't know. For example, the government pays half of his bus ticket to go to school. I think that's an interesting idea. His school isn't so different from ours, except that they get to choose their subjects draw up their timetable. Sometimes his letters came a little bit late, but that was not a big deal. From the beginning on I found this project a good chance to improve my writing skills. I immediately liked Antti and I hope we stay in touch because there are many other facts that I want to know about Finland.
